A review of our society’s year 2014

“Day by day” business with guided tours and the sacral use of the French chapel aside, three projects were able to develop our society’s work last year:

In the long-term, an educational program is indispensable for any memorial site. At long last, we are also able to offer such a pedagogical program to schools. Our first school class visited us in October, in order to dedicate themselves to the history of the Oflag VI A in an interactive manner.

A particular highlight in our society’s work was the art exhibition “AugenBlicke”, which took place in connection with the SoestArt project, featuring art in (un)usual places. The exhibition displayed 49 expressive graphics of renowned artists of the 20th century, transforming Block 3 once more into a place of art and culture.

In October we welcomed 30 members of our partner society “Mémoire et Avenir” here in Soest. Part of the diversified cultural program was a German-French literary hour, prepared by pupils of the Aldegrevergymnasium. Our French friends were delighted and impressed to sit under the roof of Block 3 in the former university of their fathers and grandfathers.

A warm thank-you to anyone who has supported our work at this memorial site.

We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
